The new WHO guidance on standard case definitions of meningococcal disease and bacterial meningitis has been published. It illustrates key recommendations for their use for routine and outbreak surveillance.
Objectives
- To illustrate the public health implications of the WHO-recommended framework on the use of these case definitions at the community and health facility level, including their application in humanitarian emergencies,
- To engage national health authorities and international partners in a discussion on strategies for effectively disseminating and implementing WHO guidance, including in hard-to-reach, marginalized communities where the disease burden is highest.
