The Department of Health Promotion, Disease Prevention & Control (HDC) works with Member States across the South‑East Asia Region to advance healthier populations, prevent and control diseases, and strengthen core public health functions. HDC contributes to the development and implementation of evidence‑based policies, strategies, norms and standards; promotes integrated, multisectoral approaches; and helps countries build the institutional and technical capacities needed for effective and sustainable public health action.

Our work spans the full spectrum of health promotion, disease prevention and disease control. This includes supporting national efforts to reduce the burden of communicable and noncommunicable diseases; strengthening surveillance systems and the use of health and epidemiological data for timely decision‑making; and advancing approaches that address social, environmental and climate‑related determinants of health. HDC also promotes healthier behaviours and environments, fosters intersectoral collaboration, and encourages community engagement to improve health outcomes.

A strong emphasis is placed on life‑course approaches that integrate gender, equity and human rights across policies and programmes, as well as on building resilient systems capable of addressing existing and emerging public health challenges. Through these efforts, HDC works to ensure that prevention and health promotion remain central to progress in the Region.
